Do you Love to Dance?
Tired of squats, lunges, push-ups, and boring cardio?
Many people are tired of doing the typical squats, lunges and push-ups….I personally love them and gravitate toward strength training with weights either at home or at the gym….that may be because for the last 30 years, I have been using strength training for my track and field competitions…you love what you know and what you are best at, right? I love feeling strong and strength training also enables me to maintain my weight and keeps me free from injuries – especially important as I age.
Now, with all that being said, I am lacking in other areas in my life! I do not have enough creative juices flowing. I used to love to draw and spent many hours as a kid with a paper and colored pens drawing cartoon characters. I became quite good and thought I wanted to become an animator at one time until my mom (who worked at Disney and worked directly with animators), discouraged me from pursuing animation as a career because she thought they were over-worked and underpaid. I am sure that she was right, especially when they were working on a big project like Pocahontas, which was what I was obsessed with back then. I sometimes regret that I didn’t pursue art, because if you find work that you love, you don’t even work….there is no difference between work and the joy of life. I am fortunate that I did eventually find my dream job, which is doing what I am doing now….helping people become healthier, stronger and even financially more stable!
Another area that I was lacking in was dancing (and singing for that matter). I didn’t like to dance because I didn’t know how to dance and I was worried what people would think of me because – you know they were all looking right at me, RIGHT? I also could not carry a tune and all through my 12 years of catholic school, I never sang louder than just under my breath…most of the time I did the lip-syncing thing in church. Regarding dancing….in high school, I was a wall flower, hoping that nobody would ask me to dance and if I did go on the dance floor, it was with a bunch of people and I made sure I was on the inside of the pack so nobody could see me. Don’t get me wrong, I loved to dance and sing….just not in front of anyone!!! As I grew older and started to drink alcohol socially, I wouldn’t dance unless I was tipsy…who is with me on this one? The final straw was when my husband, Michael and I went to a neighborhood party and I was pressured to dance but I said I needed to drink in order to dance….well, my friends took care of that….they poured me more and more drinks and by the end of the night, I had to be driven the 2 blocks home. I swore that never again will I need to be drunk or tipsy in order to get out on the dance floor.
I never had the opportunity to learn how to dance. I was always too busy or too embarrassed to take a class. I always had so much respect when I would watch others dance…especially really talented dancers…..it looked like so much FUN! Well, the opportunity is HERE NOW!
